1. Proposal is to send more people to Africa to fight Ebola.

2. It prioritizes the solution because it talks about combating it more than it is a problem.

3. The audience has fear of ebola becoming an epidemic and they know only a little info about the disease.

Joy, Sorrow, and Feeling

In the book Looking for Spinoza: Joy, Sorrow, and The Feeling Brain Antonio Damasio shed light on feelings and why we have them. The goal of the book is to connect scientific knowledge to human significance, “is to present a progress report on the nature of and human significance of feelings and related phenomena, as I see them now, as neurologist, neuroscientist and regular user”(Demasio 6).

The rhetoric was meant for an educated audience. The language and techniques he uses in this book show he has a high knowledge on neurology and human senses and emotions. He argues that emotion and feeling are separate functions and to be understood correctly he has to look at them separately. However, they are related in the fact that feelings are results of emotions. He also explains the philosophers (Spinoza) opinion of feelings and emotions. His opinion has less scientific reasoning. He believes mind and body are linked and that without the body there can be no emotions.

In the article Feeling our Emotions Damasio has a very similar rhetoric. This is not surprising since he is a neurologist and many people in these fields are very educated. For example, “My interest now extends way past the question of decision making. In our lab, we are working more intensely with social feelings such as sympathy, shame or pride—they form a foundation for morality. Neurobiology doesn’t simply help us to better understand human nature but also the rules of social interaction. Yet to really grasp this, we need a broader research approach: along with cognitive and neurological sciences, many of the humanities could contribute, especially anthropology and sociology.” This short excerpt shows the wide vocabulary and scholarly rhetoric that Damasio uses regularly.

Comparing the article and the book, Damasio demonstrates a consistent voice and rhetoric between the two pieces of literature. He uses many terms from his field of study and explains his entire concepts and ideas well.

In conclusion, Damasio has the same style of writing in both the article and the book. He explores human emotion and why we feel the way we feel in both texts using the same language.

Sports has become a very popular subject of memes. There are memes that make fun of Lebron James because he doesn't have as many rings as Kobe does and neither of them have as many as Michael does. These sports memes have become a huge part of social media is only one of the many memes that has become popular on the internet today. There is a wide variety of memes that have references of many things in our culture today. This meme is a good one because it can always change with time. It used to make fun of Lebron not having a championship, but as time went on he won 2 and as time goes on it will continue to change. This meme will continue and so will many others that compare these great athletes and many others.

1) Thesis: "In this essay I will explore what makes a meme, this specific meme, and the meme I created."
2) Yes, the purpose is to explain what a meme is then pick a specific meme and explain why it fits into a certain subgenre.
3) The paper does have a clear structure. You could work on the ending transitions from paragraph 2 to para 3 and para 3 to para 4. Other then that, I think the paper is structured well.
4) No, nothing was over-exaggerated. I think you did a good job analyzing the meme and stating what the characteristics of the meme are.
5) The strongest part is where you gave examples of a different meme in the 3rd paragraph.
6) The weakest part I would say is the transitions and you could spice up the conclusion.
7) Yes, you do seem like you understand what a genre and subgenre is.
8) The paper is written pretty well.
9) B+ or A-

1.) the thesis is clear that the meme will be explored.
2.) yes, as alex stated the purpose is clear, the specific meme will be analyzed with respect to memes as a whole.
3.) The structure of the essay is OK, the paragraphs feel rather discrete from another.
4.) No, you're good on this :)
5.) your strongest part is the 3rd paragraph, it is clearly specific and defends your argument well.
6.) your introduction is your weakest part, it is relatively loosely constructed.
7.) it is pretty clear, yes
8.) There are several colloquialisms in your writing that could be fixed.
9.) B
