Introduction
It seems memes have abruptly planted themselves into society. One might attempt to recall a time before such devices existed and now struggle to imagine a world without them. The classification of memes lies in the hands of each creator. Of course they are generally meant to introduce humor, yet each meme stands within a befitting genre and possibly sub genre. I've chosen to analyze the "Crying Gomez" meme, wherein you'll find a crying image of Selena Gomez behind a text of an unfortunate even that would bring you close to tears. You'll often find the "shit" as the bottom line of the meme indicating the disappointment behind each given unfortunate situation. The event must be disappointing for the meme to work, it must be disappointing, and it must be the crying face of Selena Gomez.

It seems memes have abruptly planted themselves into society. One might attempt to recall a time before such devices existed and now struggle to imagine a world without them. The classification of memes lies in the hands of each creator. Of course they are generally meant to introduce humor, yet each meme stands within a befitting genre and sub genre. I've chosen to analyze the "Crying Gomez" meme, wherein these memes you'll find an image of Selena Gomez’s hilariously devastated face behind text of an unfortunate event that would leave you wearing one similar. You'll often find "shit" as the bottom line of the meme indicating the frustration behind each encountered disappointment.

Memes have short, white text,, normally jumping straight into the punch line. If memes where a paragraph long, honestly, they probably wouldn’t be as popular. Within the subgenre of Crying Gomez memes, one says (top line) "When your friend crops you out of a picture..." (bottom line) "shit." Comedy and concision is what has allowed memes to win over the timelines of social networks. The top and bottom margin of the image are generally used for texts rather than covering the entire picture. The text and meme coincide. Therefore, they must be equally represented.

Images from TV shows, movies, commercials, and real-life events are often added to give a visual expression of the humorous statement displayed. For instance, there’s a meme in which a scene from the movie “The Hunger Games” is used in relaying how individuals act when a song they like comes on. The image shows the character Katniss stopping two guards, one on each of her sides, as she “volunteers tribute”. This was a scene recognizable by many, however in the meme rather than volunteering tribute the texts reads: “Wait, this is my song.”Without the image the meme would just be a statement, not a visual expression, not a meme.

Humor is a vital component in all memes. A meme could be compared to a speech in the sense that each one is directed at an intended audience. Though some are intended to ridicule, there's always a group that will still find the humor in the harsh or insensitive meme. Lack of humor would disconnect the audience it encounters due to the fact that there would be no joke to laugh together over.

Crying Gomez memes must have the image of Selena attempting to sport a smile under her teary eyes. This shows the underlying disappointment of the individual when an unfortunate text is placed across the image.
