A meme is a form of Internet literature that expresses certain feelings by superimposing words over a picture that matches the feeling of the words. Have you ever had that one time when someone came up to you and said the worst pick up line you have ever heard? I have, when I was a freshman at Wayne a guy actually came up to me and said “baby you have a crest white smile” I just had to walk away laughing.  Even though everyone has their own opinions on memes and whether they are humorous or offensive, the Howard Wolowitz memes are purely for laughs. These memes are using scientific jargon over a picture of Howard to make pick up lines to hit on women, which relates to Howards character from the television show The Big Bang Theory. Howard Wolowitz is one of the main characters from the television show The Big Bang Theory. His character is a smart engineer who has perverted ways and lives to hit on women with ridiculous pick-up lines. Since the show is based off four nerds, of course all of the lines Howard uses are science related. The picture of Howard being used in this genre of memes fits perfectly to his character. He has this smirk on his like he thinks he has game, which for anyone who watches the shows knows that he actually does not have any game at all.

The next characteristic is the terrible pickup line that goes reads across the top and bottom of Howard’s picture. This characteristic is important because not all pickup lines would work for Howard’s character on The Big Bang Theory. These memes have the top line as the basic opening statement that usually says something scientific which leads to the bottom line that’s explains the scientific line and turns the whole pick up line to become perverted. To specifically have a Howard meme the pickup line must contain a scientific jargon. Using any pick up line would not qualify to make a Howard meme because it wouldn’t fit with the type of meme genre being created.

Also, the pickup lines must be slightly on the perverted side. This also goes along with Howard’s character on the show. Throughout the seasons Howard does the most random/weird things to try to get women. The most ironic part of his perverseness and need for a woman is that he still lives at home with his mother. The Howard memes must contain all three of these components to be classified as a Howard meme in this genre.

The meme I have creadted to fit in the Howard Woliwtz meme genre has all the same characteristics as the other memes in this genre. It has Howard’s creepy smirk picture that goes off the impression as if he actaully had just said this to a girl. The cheesy pick up line that no girl would ever want to hear, because it is not only cheesy but also perverted and creepy. Saying “I’d unzip your genes” is what makes this pick up change from cheesy to just creepy. The background of this picture also plays a part in the feel for this meme. By having a background that looks like he is out maybe at a restaurant or something makes it seem as if he actaully standing there talking to you saying this ridiculous pick up line.          

By having all these characteristics we are able to create this unusal Howard meme. With the cheesy and creepy pick up line and the smirk on his face completes the meme and relates it to Howards character on The Big Bang Theory very well. But just because the Howard memes can have very perverted pick up lines  does not mean that they are made to offend anyone. They are created purely for a good laugh, eventhough sometimes you need to google some of the words to do them being scientific jargon.

Indeed, The Howard Wolowitz series of memes is a great example of how formal the rules of genres of Internet memes can be, even for those that are made purely for laughs.
