Why We Crave Horror Movies Group Project

For this project you will work together in small groups to evaluate, revise, and rewrite a thesis statement provided to you and then "write" a rhetorical analysis that supports your provided thesis. You do not need to physically write a whole paper, but you do need to be able present your thesis and argumentative points to the class. I would recommend an outline.*

The Thesis:

Each group has been given a student-produced thesis statement. All but one group has been given a weak thesis statement (one group has the strong). Together you will need to evaluate your thesis statement. Is it weak? Is it strong? Why? How will you revise it? Is it too broad? If so, which concept is too broad? Can it be made more narrow? Is it specific enough? Can it be made more specific? Can it be simplified?

*A strong rhetorical analysis will explicitly refer to the author's use of rhetorical strategies/devices AND the author's message i.e. argument: "Stephen King's [rhetorical strategies or devices] support [King's position]."

The Rhetorical Analysis:

Once you have rewritten your thesis start crafting your support. Focus on the EA part of the MEAL plan (i.e. this is a piece of evidence, and this is what this piece of evidence does, why the author may have chosen it, and how it impacts the audience).
